Beautiful Face Shining with Facial Peeling

Facial peels can improve appearance by removing acne scars or wrinkles. Get to know the types before deciding to do this facial treatment. Facial peeling is a cosmetic procedure where chemicals are applied to the surface of the face to remove the top layer of skin or dead skin. This technique also serves to stimulate the growth of new skin cells. Layer of skin that grows after facial peeling will look smoother and younger, but also more sensitive to sunlight. Facial peeling is done to reduce fine wrinkles; overcome wrinkles due to sunlight, aging, or hereditary factors; reduce facial spots due to aging, or black spots due to pregnancy or taking birth control pills (melasma); improve minor scars; treat certain types of acne; and overcome dull facial skin.

Types of Facial Peeling

Facial peeling is divided into three based on the depth of the peeled skin layers, namely superficial, medium, and deep.
  • Superficial

  • Superficial facial peels function to lift the outer layer of the skin (epidermis) to treat fine wrinkles, acne, uneven skin tone, and dry skin. The results of this type of peeling may not be very visible at first, for that routine care is needed to maintain the properties that are temporary. After superficial peeling, it is recommended to avoid sun exposure until new skin completely covers the exfoliated facial area.
  • Medium

  • Medium facial peel removes skin cells from the epidermis and dermis (the layer of skin under the epidermis). This peel can treat wrinkles, acne scars, and uneven skin tone. To maintain maximum results, peeling medium can be repeated after 6 or 12 months later and avoid being exposed to sunlight for several months.
  • Deep

  • Deep type facial peels remove skin cells from the epidermis to the lower layers of the dermis. Those who have deeper wrinkles, scars, or precancerous growth may be recommended to do this type of peeling. In addition, protect the skin from total sunlight to prevent skin discoloration.
Not everyone is suitable for facial peeling procedures, for example people who have taken the acne drug isotretinoin in the past six months, have a history of overgrowth of scar tissue (keloids) or facial warts, and abnormal skin pigmentation. In addition, it should also be remembered that facial peels can cause side effects such as redness of the skin, appearance of scarring, skin discoloration, infection, and reactivation of herpes simplex virus infection. There is no beauty procedure without risk. Therefore, discuss with your skin specialist before you do facial peels.
